This policy covers IslaTodo (islatodo.com), Island Happenings (islandhappenings.net), and the IslaTodo native mobile apps (iOS and Android). All three are operated by Caribbean Breeze Properties / Island Happenings, based in Sosúa, Dominican Republic.
We are a tourism platform serving the Dominican Republic North Coast. Our core mission includes a public-safety alert system. Privacy is not optional for an emergency-alerts platform — we hold ourselves to a higher standard than typical tourism apps.
We request your device's location only to (1) deliver geo-targeted emergency alerts when you are physically in an affected area, and (2) help you discover nearby businesses in our directory. Your coordinates are sent to our servers only when you actively use the app or have explicitly opted into safety alerts. Background location is used only when you have explicitly opted into ongoing safety alert delivery.
Collected only if you opt in to: the Island Happenings daily newsletter, the email backup channel for safety alerts, or vendor account registration. Used solely to deliver the content you requested. One-click unsubscribe in every email.
Collected when a business owner registers as a vendor on our platform. Used for booking notifications and customer-vendor communication during transactions. Never shared with third parties.
A device-specific identifier that lets your phone receive notifications from us. Stored on our servers and used only to deliver the notifications you opted into.
Optional. If you upload a profile photo as a vendor, it is stored on our servers and shown on your directory card. Vendors can remove their photo at any time.
Reviews you write, ratings you submit, and bookings you make are stored on our servers. Reviews about businesses are public; vendor-side ratings about customers are private (visible only to other vendors when you book a future service).
Page views, feature taps, error reports — collected to improve the app. No personal identifiers attached.
Processes all payments. Your credit card data goes directly to Stripe and never touches our servers. Stripe's privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy.
Powers our AI concierge and translates safety alerts. Anonymous query content is sent to Anthropic for translation and response generation. Per Anthropic's API terms, this data is not used to train their models. Anthropic's privacy policy: anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
Deliver push notifications to your phone. They receive your device token but no message content beyond the alert text itself. Apple privacy: apple.com/legal/privacy. Google privacy: policies.google.com/privacy.
Delivers our website and apps over a global content network. Cloudflare may log basic request data (IP address, timestamp, user-agent) for security purposes. Their privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you. Email [email protected].
Request complete deletion of your data. We honor all requests within 7 business days.
Update or correct any data via your in-app account settings or by emailing us.
One-click unsubscribe link in every email. In-app toggles for push notification categories. Each notification channel (safety alerts, daily guide, marketing, booking confirmations) is independent.
Toggle off in app settings → Privacy.
Safety alerts are issued either by automated ingestion from authoritative sources (Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, USGS, NOAA National Hurricane Center, EMSC) or by vetted local authorities (mayors' offices, hotel emergency coordinators, certified property managers, Defensa Civil DR — partnership in progress). IslaTodo aggregates and redistributes; we do not originate primary alert content for natural disasters.
IslaTodo supplements but does not replace official government warnings. Always follow direct guidance from Defensa Civil Dominicana, the Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia (COE-DR), the U.S. Embassy, your country's foreign ministry, or the relevant local authority during a real emergency.
IslaTodo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Our servers are located in the United States (Mac mini infrastructure with Cloudflare global edge cache). If you use IslaTodo from outside the U.S., your data is transferred to and processed in the U.S. By using the service, you consent to this transfer.
We may update this policy occasionally to reflect new features or legal requirements. Material changes will be announced via in-app notification and on the home page at least 14 days before taking effect.
